barns of yamhill county...
You can call them an endangered species. The old barns, rapidly dissapearing, are a symbol of hard work...dreams put into action. They bring back a style of life that is paved over by suburban sprawl. My husband's grandfather was in the business of making barns. This past summer, I hoped to photograph some of them, for family history, as well as preserving a bit of a vanishing culture. Sadly they had already vanished.

The barns in your photos are like people with differing facades and personalities. You've captured something living about them. Seeing their decline is like watching a slow death while at the same time summoning a wistful sentimentality and sweet gratitude for what they once were. Julie S.
